Publication : The Firm : Determining What Subparts in Your Organization Require Their Own NPI

Medicare recently issued guidance to enrolled health care providers who are covered entities as to how to determine "subparts" and how to obtain the National Provider Identifier (NPI) for themselves and their subparts. Beginning May 23, 2007 Medicare and all other health plans are required to accept only the NPI to identify a health care provider. All other provider numbers as of this date will no longer be effective.
